Want to find out how color blind people see the world?

Color blindness, as we at Mega Curioso have already commented in some articles here, is a vision disorder consisting in the inability to differentiate some colors, such as green and red, and blue and yellow. This condition - often inherited - affects 1 in 12 men or 1 in 100 women and is caused by a change in the pigment of the cones, one of the photoreceptors in the eyes.

We perceive color thanks to two types of cells in the eye, the cones and rods, which capture the visual stimuli and transmit them to the brain, which in turn "translates" the information and transforms it into images. . Rods are responsible for detecting light, and cones are colors, and most of us have three types of cones: red, green, and blue. Because it turns out that color-blind people have a little problem with these little cellulas there.

Varieties

According to Dr. Drauzio Varella, dyschromatopsia - which is another name for color blindness - is divided into three types: protanopia, deuteranopia and tritanopia. The first variety is characterized by the absence or reduction of red cones, resulting in a vision in shades of brown, beige, green or gray.

Can you distinguish the numbers within the circles?

Those with the second variety, deuteranopia, lack or diminish the green cones and therefore see in shades of brown. Finally, tritanopia is characterized by the absence or reduction of the blue cones, resulting in a vision drawn to the shades of pink. According to Dr. Drauzio, it is worth remembering that a very small group of people have achromatic vision - meaning that they can only see in shades of white, black and gray.

Different world

For those who do not suffer from color blindness, it is kind of hard to imagine how these people see the world around us. But if you've always been curious to find out, the folks at Bright Side have put together a bunch of images that show how each type of colorblind perceives colors. Check it out below:
