Russians create beautiful women fakes to seduce US military

The Politico Magazine website on Monday brought an extensive article about a somewhat unusual method that some Russian hackers have been using to obtain classified military information from US officials. According to the report, hackers create fake profiles of beautiful women on the web to contact US military officers.

According to experts consulted by the publication, there would be two main reasons for this type of espionage. The first of these aims to gain insight into the movement of US troops from what military personnel post to their social networks. "Spies understand that great information can be obtained based on the soldiers' public behavior, " cybersecurity expert John Bambenek points out to Politico.

Hackers use profiles of beautiful women to gain the sympathy of US soldiers on social networks

In addition, this virtual contact with US soldiers would generate their greater sympathy for Russia by subtly introducing Russian content to their timelines. An example of this would be the viralization among some US troops of a video in which a Russian soldier dies heroically in the face of ISIS militants in Syria.

"All the reactions from the guys [to the video] were like, 'This is amazing, an epic way to die, '" former military officer Serena Moring told the post. “It was a very specific connection between soldiers that was created through social media, ” he adds. Apparently, however unusual, Russian hacker tactics for infiltrating US military lines have paid off.
