According to Bill Gates, HBO's "Silicon Valley" series is quite realistic

In a blog post on GatesNotes this Monday (19), Bill Gates revealed that he likes the HBO Silicon Valley series. According to him, this is one of the few works of pop culture that realistically portrays California's Silicon Valley tech community.

"If you really want to understand Silicon Valley, you should watch the HBO Silicon Valley series, " said the Microsoft co-founder. The billionaire also revealed that he can identify with the show's protagonist named Richard (Thomas Middleditch), who is an excellent programmer but needs to learn a lot about leading people.

Gates also made it clear that the characters were well constructed to represent the types of people who work in Silicon Valley. Sarcastic programmers, however, without any social treatment, would be the prime example. We also have other realistic characteristics such as “entrepreneurial generosity” and “arbitrary nature of success and failure”.

Considering the impact Silicon Valley has on our lives, I'm surprised how rarely pop culture gets it right. To understand how it works today, you should watch @SiliconHBO. Personally, I identify most with Richard Hendricks: https://t.co/EsiglR37Bo pic.twitter.com/5agUIEUdF2

However, he does have some criticism about the plot. According to him, small companies do not always have an advantage over large companies when facing some challenges.

My experience is that small companies may be equally unable

“Silicon Valley gives you the impression that small businesses like Pied Piper are very capable, while large ones like Hooli are completely incapable. While obviously obvious, my experience is that small companies may be equally incapable, and large companies have the resources to invest heavily in research to appreciate a long-term view, which small companies cannot. However, I understand why the show focuses so much on Pied Piper and makes Hooli look a little stupid. It's more fun to cheer for the underdog, ”he wrote.

Silicon Valley ended its fifth season in May this year, and production of a sixth wave of episodes seems to be behind schedule. It is rumored that HBO would put the program back on air only in 2020.
