Kidnappers release hostage after $ 1 million bailout at Bitcoin

Pavel Lerner, a recognized blockchain and cryptocurrency expert, was released last week by his hijackers after a $ 1 million Bitcoin ransom was paid. The criminals chose the victim precisely because of their position in the cryptocurrency market and demanded money in Bitcoin to avoid tracking. Nevertheless, it was not clear who made the payment.

Lerner was taken by a group of hooded men and forcibly placed in a van leaving a cryptocurrency exchange house in the capital city of Kiev on December 26. Local police have been investigating the case, but Lerner has already been released without any injuries. The specialist works at the British company EXMO Finance.

Pavel is currently quite stressed. Therefore, he will not make any official comments in the coming days.

The company issued an official statement about Lerner's release, but explained that the victim would not make any official pronouncements in the coming days. “At the moment he is safe and without injury. Still, Pavel is currently quite stressed. Therefore, he will not make any official comments in the coming days, ”says the text.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, this is the first time such a crime has been registered in the European country with respect to Bitcoin. It is also worth noting that news of Lerner's release has begun to circulate as governments in several countries are trying to create rules to avoid excessive speculation in the cryptocurrency market.
