Surreal! Check out this selection of items people tried to take on the plane

If you have ever traveled by plane, you know that there are a number of restrictions on what you can and cannot carry in your checked bag and carry-on.

However, anyone passing through the airport departure gate can also observe the amount of people who don't bother reading flight regulations and try to take off carrying the most forbidden items: kitchen knives, screwdrivers, deodorants, hair spray, insecticide, among many others.

But some go well beyond the limits!

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is forced to confiscate so many absurd items that they have decided to set up an Instagram account to share with their followers objects that try to pass the metal detector at dozens of US airports.

The account (@tsa) already has 916, 000 followers, and the posts are hilarious. See, for example, here:

Was this traveler headed to Crystal Lake Camp for the 13th? Maybe. Maybe not. But if you find yourself needing to travel with your machete, be sure you pack it in your checked bag. They're not allowed in the cabin of the plane. … Whether it's a tiny pocket knife, or a giant claymore sword, knives (and such) must be packed in checked baggage. This machete was discovered in a carry-on bag at the Nashville International Airport (BNA). … # FridayThe13th #KiKiKiMaMaMa #Paraskevidekatriaphobia

TSA Social Media Chief Bob Burns coordinates account management and has fun with the diversity of items. He revealed to the Thrillist website that among the most common artifacts are medieval weapons. "We see it regularly. Not every day, but I select only the best from the best photographs." That is, there is much more where these came from!

According to him, people carry many replicas of grenades, mortars and weapons of all kinds. They believe that because they are toy or fake, they will be able to get through the gate, but not quite.

"What they don't realize is that when we see it on the X-ray monitor, it's as real as a real object. And you won't just reach for the suitcase and ask 'What's that?' to the passenger or to believe him when he says it's not real. You have to go through the whole process and sometimes lead to evacuated checkpoints, which can mean a lot of missed flights and unhappy people, "he says.

He also reminds travelers that wrapping forbidden items in aluminum foil does not fool X-ray readers, just as putting your penknife in a sunscreen package - which, believe me, happens quite often.

But most of all, if you are a serial killer or a slasher villain, please leave your toys at home. Here are some of the most amazing products travelers have tried to miss:
