Scare: panoramic tower threatens to break more than 400 meters

This story is chilling even for those not afraid of heights. Imagine the situation: Inside an observation tower made entirely of glass exactly 412 meters high, you can see the whole city, literally, under your feet. But suddenly that sound of something breaking slowly. You look down and find that the floor glass is shattering. Scene worthy of a movie or even a terrible nightmare, isn't it?

But that really happened recently in Chicago. A group of people experienced the biggest scare of their lives after the glass floor of Willis Tower Skydeck, one of the city's main sights, began to crack.

One visitor said that by the time the glass began to make noise, there was a woman with two children on the scene. “Their faces were pale with fear! Everyone around was very nervous and not knowing what to do. Immediately everyone started asking them to leave, ”he said.

In a statement, those responsible for the tourist spot minimized what happened, claiming that what was broken was the protective layer of the observation tower and not the glass. According to them, this even demonstrated that the protection was working, as “breakage” is expected in this device that aims to protect the glass.

Visitors said that after the incident, Willis Tower employees interdicted the observation tower with a black tarp, but the other visiting rooms were open.

“My wife is very afraid of heights, but she was going to climb the tower because our whole family was there. After what happened, she didn't have the courage. Even with the tower that broke closed, we continued the visit and stepped elsewhere. And I didn't feel insecure at any time, ”said one tourist.

The Willis Tower Skydec is 441 meters high and the glass observation tower is located on the 103rd floor, about 412 meters from the ground. The site is visited by over 1.7 million people every year.
