Solar Storm Produces Another Sensational Northern Lights [Video]

As you know, solar storms, in addition to causing damage to orbiting satellites and causing problems to the telecommunications and power supply systems here on Earth, are also responsible for forming the beautiful northern lights. And the video above, posted on YouTube by Swedish photographer Gӧran Strand, shows an amazing show produced by a solar storm that hit our planet on March 17th.

The clip was created from 2, 464 images clicked for four hours at Ӧstersund, Sweden, and the sequence showing the Sun early in the film was also created from images - 10 in total - captured by the photographer.

The solar storm occurred on March 15th near the spot “AR1692”, which is about the size of our planet. The aurora borealis occurred two days later, when the solar wind resulting from the ejection of energy hit Earth's magnetic field.
