One of the largest museums in the world makes 375,000 images free

Have you heard about the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art (aka "The Met"?) It is considered the largest museum in the entire Western Hemisphere - on the left of Greenwich, in this case - with over two million items. There are sculptures, paintings and objects from the most diverse regions of the globe dating from antiquity to the present day.

Many of the biggest names in the arts are represented, including Botticelli, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Rodin, among others. There is even an amazing collection of Egyptian items, Native American works and more. And if you've always wanted to see the museum but never had the opportunity, you'll love to hear about it.

There are more than 375, 000 images (between frames and other items) that can be used freely.

From now on, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is making available no less than 375, 000 images completely free of charge over the internet. Best of all, most of them are being released without any copyright strings - they can be used on websites, blogs, jobs, etc.

The 375, 000 images comprise almost the entire collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art - with the exception of 65, 000 copyrighted materials, for example. Like the idea? You can do research directly through the museum's website or through the dedicated Creative Commons service.
