See a huge crumbling ice bridge in Argentina [video]

The video you are about to watch was shot at the beginning of March and shows a huge crumbling ice bridge on Lake Argentino - Argentina's largest lake, located on Patagonia's famous Perito Moreno Glacier. The dramatic event was witnessed by thousands of tourists and residents, and luckily someone filmed the scene for everyone to see. Follow the spectacular breakdown below:

According to Glacier Hub portal people, this phenomenon occurs periodically - usually every 4 or 5 years - and the last time a part of the glacier collapsed occurred in 2012. According to the portal, there is no way to determine when exactly where the collapse is going to happen, but almost always it is the result of water flowing through an opening at the base of the glacier.

Ice bridge

According to Glacier Hub, in the case of the video bridge, the Perito Moreno ice field produces pressure and forces the glacier to grow towards the right side of Lago Argentino, damming the water. However, as the volume of the dam increases, the flow of water creates a tunnel through the ice that eventually “builds” a huge bridge.

It turns out that at any given moment the bridge is no longer able to support the weight of the ice on it and then collapses. This structure, as we explained earlier, is formed periodically and is estimated to be made up of thousands of tons of ice. In addition, although the phenomenon has already been linked to global warming, it is due to natural physical processes and is unrelated to climate variations.

Fortunately, Perito Moreno is one of the few glaciers in the world that continue to grow, despite rising temperatures on the planet. So this amazing place can keep dazzling tourists - for now. And since we're on the subject of glacier ice masses, here's another video of this event:
