5 fires supposedly triggered by ghosts

When we hear stories of evil spirits that haunt the living, the tales often include details such as strange noises coming from particular environments, ominous smells that come out of nowhere, things that move on their own, and horrifying apparitions that scare people.

However, according to the ListVerse Web site, it seems that there are also some pretty pitying ... pyromaniac souls wandering around, which would even have been responsible for causing very real fires. Learn the story of five of them below:

1 - The Sasha K. case

In 1987, residents of Yenakievo village in Ukraine began to be afraid of a boy identified only as Sasha K. after some incidents happened every time the boy was around. Between episodes, witnesses described the explosion of light bulbs and even a refrigerator that would have turned upside down on its own, in addition to the occurrence of several spontaneous fires.

After Sasha's father suffered a nervous breakdown - certainly motivated by fear - the terrified neighbors contacted the authorities, and the boy was taken to Moscow for examination. Dr. Adriankin, the doctor in charge of the case, managed to come up with two possible explanations: either the boy was possessed by a spirit that emitted the energy that caused the incidents or a "poltergeist" was the author of the episodes.

2 - The Willow Hotel

Built during the time of the gold rush in Jamestown, California, the Willow Hotel has been around since the mid-19th century and is reputed to be haunted by an evil spirit that would cause a total of five fires on the site. The most notable of these occurred in 1985, when the mysterious accident not only hit the hotel, but destroyed some nearby stores as well.

Some spiritual investigators - and even witnesses who would have seen the haunt - say it is the ghost of an angry miner who died when a mine under the hotel collapsed. Another theory is that the pyromaniac soul belonged to one of the victims who died in 1896, when several occupied buildings were blown up to save Willow during a fire that hit the area.

3 - Caledonia Mills

The Caledonia Mills incidents occurred in 1922, and in addition to involving paranormal phenomena, they included a series of unexplained fires on the McDonald family farm. Events were reported to have occurred when the farmers' foster daughter - a 16-year-old handicapped girl with the mental capacity of a 4-year-old child - Mary Ellen was present.

The episodes were investigated by experts at the time, who found animals locked in the barn trapped by braided tails together and a large number of fires of unknown origin throughout the farm. In addition, witnesses claimed to feel slaps by an invisible attacker. Researchers believed that the farmers' daughter was the one who did these things while possessed by a "disembodied intelligence."

4 - The Willey Farm

In 1948, Willey Farm was the target of hundreds of fires that occurred over the course of two weeks and destroyed not only the main house, but two barns and other structures. Unexplained events began after brown spots began to appear on the house wallpapers. The family who lived there put out more than 200 fires that happened throughout the property.

The site had no electricity, so the cause of the fires could not be related to wiring problems or short circuits. Luckily, the family decided to occupy a tent the night before the house was completely destroyed, and firefighters could not find an explanation for the incident. The US Air Force attributed the incidents to the action of radio waves, radioactivity, natural gas and even nuclear energy.

5 - The Hitchings Family Case

The above case occurred in London in 1954 and consisted of a series of unexplained events that terrified the Hitchings family, such as the presence of typical strange noises and ghostly hands pulling their clothes, as well as small fires. However, the attacks seemed to be focused on Shirley, the couple's daughter.

On one occasion the girl's bed began to burn; in another, the girl's clothes were thrown over a stove turned off by an invisible force and burned in flames. According to reports, the perpetrator of the attacks was a spirit named Donald, who even followed Shirley to work and terrified his colleagues. The activity was only stopped after the intervention of a specialist in this type of case.
