If you don't know, you probably wonder what a kitchenette apartment looks like. It has its value when housing is temporary or money is short, but limited space is evident. Anyway, this type of property is within the reality of Brazilian cities, but not in Hong Kong.

It has been considered for the past 7 years as the most expensive city to buy property in the world, according to the Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey. As a solution to this problem, city-dwelling architect James Law has developed a cheap and practical solution to reduce housing costs.

It sounds crazy, but the idea is to adapt 2.50-meter-diameter concrete pipes used for sanitation work, making available to the residents a sofa that turns the bed, shelves, a fridge, a microwave and a bathroom with shower.

The OPod, name given by its creator, is only a prototype today and is in the process of being approved by the city hall. The rooms are 9.30 m² (a normal parking space is approximately 12 m²) and will sell for $ 15, 000. Considering the size, it's certainly not cheap, but a 55 square meter apartment in the city costs around $ 1.8 million!

Due to the size of the pipes, they can be stacked by placing housing projects on rafts, between buildings or even under viaducts. Because they weigh 22 tons each, they do not need individual fixing after stacking. The architect believes that this is a solution for people living in extreme conditions, due to the high price of real estate and, consequently, rents.
