After all, what is the difference between the right and left brain?

Let the first book of neuroscience shoot anyone who has never caught himself testing to find out if he is dominated by the left or right brain. In theory, people who are commanded most strongly on the left are good with numbers and logical thinking - the Exatas crowd, say - while those who get the most commands on the right are the most creative - hello, people of Humanas!

This division of behavioral patterns has to do with the anatomical division of the brain itself, which is separated into two hemispheres, each of which is responsible for performing certain tasks. The activities carried out by these two sides are obviously interdependent, since we are talking about two sides of the same body, not two neighboring bodies. The link between one hemisphere and another is a structure called the corpus callosum.

Regarding the muscles of the body, it is worth keeping the contra rule: the right hemisphere controls the movements on our left side and the left hemisphere on the right side. This is to say that when you raise your left arm, it is the right side of your brain that is sending you commands to do so. Taking the same logic into account, it is easy to understand why a brain injury in the right hemisphere, for example, compromises the functioning of some region on a person's left side.

Generally, questions involving language, such as processing what we hear and say; Logic and performing exact mathematical calculations are tasks processed by our left hemisphere, which is also responsible for our memory.

The right hemisphere is responsible for our spatial abilities, easy recognition and musical processing. In the mathematical question, only the very basic, especially the estimates and comparisons. It is this hemisphere that helps us understand images and see meaning in what we see. With regard to language, it is also what helps us interpret voice tones and contexts.

As you can see, things like language and math skills are processed by both hemispheres, but in different ways, so it is really quite a complex matter to stipulate whether a person is more commanded by the right side or the left side of the brain.

This division of tasks, which makes both hemispheres work for the same skills, is a way for our brains to function more efficiently. As Professor Stephen Wilson of University College London explained, "Brain asymmetry is essential for proper brain function."

He also states that this mechanism allows both sides of the brain to become experts in the functions they perform, which improves our performance and avoids situations of conflict between the two hemispheres. In that case, when someone asks which side of the brain is most dominant in you, don't be afraid to say both!
