Artist writes first thousand Pi digits in the sky using airplanes

The launch of the new Apple iPhone 5 was one of the events that caught the most attention last Wednesday (12). Yesterday, however, not everyone was looking at Apple's new smartphone, but at the sky. In San Francisco, an artist - known only as Ishky - used five planes to write the first thousand digits of Pi over the city.

Called “Pi in the Sky”, the incredible work is part of the ZERO1 Biennial event, which takes place in the American city as a celebration of the union of art with technology. To accomplish this feat - which can be seen in the video above - the planes performed synchronized actions and were equipped with smoke printers.

The aircraft wrote the numbers over 3, 000 meters, and each digit made in the sky was almost a kilometer high - all to make the work clearly visible to San Francisco residents.
