Warning, parents: Fidget spinners can put your kids at risk.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which analyzes the safety of various products, recently issued a warning to fidget spinners after receiving numerous reports of accidents involving these toys. In most cases, they are suffocating children by small parts and even starting a fire because of the light battery wires.

Ann Marie Buerkle, CPSC president, explains that spinners can be fun to play with but should be a concern for parents, especially with young children. It turns out that falls can cause smaller parts of these toys to come loose, potentially causing even fatal accidents.

No matter your age: avoid putting fidget spinner in your mouth

The CPSC warns that children under 3 should not use spinners and that no one should put toys in their mouths - there are reports of 14-year-olds choking on loose parts.

Another danger concerns fires and explosions reported by people who bought rechargeable spinners. In cases like this, the agency advises that the loading should be done only with the toy's own cables and with the supervision of an adult, that is, never leave the spinner in the socket and get out of the way. Also the origin and quality of the materials should be evaluated.
