450-meter waterfall turns into radical attraction in New Zealand

Created by Wildwire Wanaka, the “Lord of the Rungs” rock climbing was launched in September with a radical and wet proposal over 450 meters high. The ferrata system - the name given to the path prepared in the rock-walled mountain walls with metal supports - extends almost perpendicularly along the Twin Falls waterfall, offering tourists an adventure that takes between six and seven hours and ends with a flight of helicopter to the ground.

The route to the top follows miles of cable running over and behind the waterfall and includes a 35-meter zip line crossing. But beyond adventure, brave visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the valley below, as well as the surrounding mountains, part of the beautiful scenery of the Wanaka region of South Island, New Zealand.

Radical adventure

Lord of the Rungs is Wildwire Wanaka's third level of climbing, founded by Mark Morrison, a climber who has become a tour operator and guide. According to him, who worked for two years in the development of attraction, climbing does not require prior experience, just "reasonably good fitness and some upper body strength." He adds that customers "should be motivated and have a good head for height and adventure."

After years of experience as a mountain climber, mountain guide, and security mission, Mark found in Wildwire Wanaka the opportunity to “come home and raise a family” with his Canadian-born wife and partner Laurel. The couple met in Antarctica and worked together in various parts of the world before setting up their business in Wanaka three years ago. Today, the father of two, Mark believes the city was the perfect choice for his lifestyle.

Located on a private ranch about 20 minutes from Wanaka, Wildwire Wanaka has exclusive access to Twin Falls Waterfall. Another interesting option is Aspiring Helicopters, which is on hand to fly customers from the Otago region and to take those who climb Lord of the Rungs back to mainland.

Twin Falls's three climbing options offer diverse experiences for customers "of all skill and fitness levels." In addition to the newer, technical Lord of the Rungs, you can do Go Wild, a three-hour beginner climb, and intermediate Wild Thing.

“For the beginner climb, you don't have to have any experience and just moderate fitness. If you can climb a ladder and deal with the fear of heights, you are allowed. We've had grandparents and a nine-year-old who participated, ”said Matt. “And many of our beginning climbers ask to be promoted to the second level as soon as they finish the first climb.” So, dear reader, would you face this adventure?
