Although the fantasy of the old series "Six Million Dollar Man" should still remain only in fiction for a long time, scientists have taken the first step toward building completely synthetic muscles.

A team of researchers at the University of Strasbourg recently announced that it has been able to create nanomachines capable of recreating the movements of human muscle fibers. By joining several of them together, the set becomes capable of coordinated contraction movements.

Although structures at the moment - composed of supramolecular polymers - can only perform movements of a few micrometers, it is expected that in the future the technology will allow the complete creation of artificial muscles. According to the researchers, tiny machines can also represent considerable leaps for robotics.
