Brazilian clubs give solidarity to Chapecoense athletes

Brazilian football is in mourning. A plane crash in the early hours of Tuesday in the city of La Unión, Colombia, killed a total of 76 people. Among them was a good part of the squad of Chapecoense, a club in the west of Santa Catarina that would play tonight the first game of the Copa Sudamericana final.

At least five passengers were found alive. According to information from UOL Esporte, the place of the plane crash is difficult to access, which makes the rescue of bodies difficult. Still among the dead were about 22 media professionals from stations such as Fox Sports, Globo and RBS, as well as radio stations.

Repercussion of the tragedy

As soon as the accident was announced, several national and international clubs used social networks to express condolences to the club and the families of the players and passengers involved. Atletico Nacional de Medellin, the club that would compete in the final of the competition against Chapecoense, issued an official note asking Conmebol (South American Football Confederation) to declare the Brazilian club champion.
