Meet SpongeBob, probably the fattest cat in the world

According to the folks at Amazing Data, SpongeBob (or Spongebob), the cat you just saw in the picture above is 9 years old and weighs an impressive 15 pounds! This means that SpongeBob weighs the same as an adult Labrador or a 4-year-old child.

At the moment, the cat is following a treatment for animal obesity, with the goal of reducing the size of its belt by almost 70 centimeters. Moreover, because it is so heavy, the poor animal cannot clean itself or walk properly.

The previous "record holder" - a cat named Meow - passed away last month in the United States, weighing in at 18 pounds. Check out more images of the obese cat in the gallery below:
