Consumption of beer, popcorn, barbecue and soda grew during Cup

São Paulo, July 2014 - With countless get-togethers, parties and goodies during the World Cup, it's hard to keep track of food. A survey by MyFitnessPal, the digital health and fitness platform that helps people achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle, reveals an increase in calorie food consumption during the tournament. Beer, soda, barbecue and popcorn were the biggest targets of hungry fans in the period.

The survey analyzes the daily consumption of some food and beverages between June 12 and July 13, the tournament period, and compares it directly with the daily record between May 13 and June 11.

In the case of beer, there was a 61% increase in consumption during the Cup - and the most benefited brand was Brahma, one of the official sponsors. Coca-Cola (35% growth in the period), barbecue and popcorn (118%) complete the list. The consumption peaks were precisely on the days of games in Brazil, a phenomenon that was repeated with popcorn. In the case of barbecue and sausage, the peak was on June 28, a Saturday - when the match took place between Brazil and Chile.

“After the joys and sadness of the World Cup, now is the time to go after it and lose the most lost pounds in the tournament, ” explains Tina Louise, MyFitnessPal's director of market development in Brazil.
