Mysterious disease makes villagers sleep a lot and wake up freaks

The inhabitants of a small region of Kazakhstan dubbed the “village of the damned” are suffering from a mysterious disease that cannot yet be explained by the government. According to reports from dozens of people interviewed by Daily Mail journalists, there are several rumors and conspiracies about the problem.

The incidents began four years ago in Kalachi, when some people fell into a deep sleep in a state of "almost" coma. Upon awakening, the patients had extreme weakness, hallucinations, and an uncontrollable sexual desire. The children, in turn, reported seeing monsters and even a third eye on their mothers' foreheads.

At nearby hospitals, doctors say they have not detected any poisoning in the air, water or food consumed by the population. The most skeptical say that the symptoms are part of a collective hysteria. On the other hand, many people fear that the symptoms are related to the large number of uranium mines that were mined at a time when the region was controlled by the Soviet Union.

The government has begun a plan to remove residents from the site, but about 381 people have not yet abandoned the site, which resembles a ghost town or even a war-desolate place. Residents who insist on staying report that they may be being poisoned on purpose and that the recent discovery of a gold mine may have to do with the mysterious disease that has amazed most people.

Although cases of comatose people have been reported in nearby cities, all of them had passed through Kalachi, which in some ways indicates that the disease is isolated in the village. Sergei Lukashenko, director of security at the country's National Nuclear Center, said the high concentration of carbon monoxide at the site is definitely a relevant factor.

“The maximum allowable concentration of carbon monoxide in Kazakhstan is 5 milligrams per cubic meter. In homes where cases of the disease have occurred, the concentration was 10 times higher. This factor seems very suspicious and strange. It could be natural gas, the stove, machines or anything else, but it can happen anywhere, ”explains Lukashenko.

The expert also commented that the location of the village may be related to the high concentration of gas and hallucinations, as the smoke from the stoves does not rise and the air is not easily renewed.
