Student makes model with 1,867 pieces of computer and breaks record

Concerned about the global problem of electronic waste, the student of Architecture and Urbanism of Belo Horizonte (MG), Rafael dos Santos Silva had an idea that became a record. He built the Mockup with the most computer parts, joining RankBrasil in 2016.

There are 1, 867 items, including processors, HD, CD / DVD player, CDs, slots, floppy disks, motherboard, CPU, cards (video, network, sound), RAM comb and others. According to the record holder, the raw material used was obtained in computer stores and also with friends who are technicians.

Measuring 270 cm by 130 cm, the model features cities with buildings, industry, power substation, trees, airport, pyramids, among other buildings. In addition to computer parts, Rafael used 73 more recyclable pieces such as cardboard, strips of paper and remnants of insulfilm.

According to the student it was seven months of work. "Four to recycle and dismantle all my scrap and three dedicated to erecting buildings and developing the mockup." He says the process resulted in physical and mental burnout as he lost several nights of sleep. “It took a lot of dedication in the finals: 12 hours a day for a week, ” he recalls.

According to the record holder, electronic waste is a global problem and one of the pillars of his project is recycling, encouraging culture and art.

The idea of building the model came up in January this year. “I was listening to music on my computer and on the table was a heatsink and a RAM comb. I kept looking and imagined a building, ”he says. So he made five buildings and put them together. “I thought it was really cool and decided to create a city combining architecture with art, ” he says.

Despite studying Architecture and Urbanism, Rafael has knowledge in the area of informatics and is also concerned with the environment. According to the record holder, the model was created thinking of accumulated electronic waste due to technological advances. “I dedicated myself intensely to this project, giving up other tasks”.

For the miner, recognition of RankBrasil is primarily a dream come true. “It's a title that will add a lot to my life and a great happiness to share this record with everyone (family and friends) who supported me from the beginning, ” he says.

Environmental preservation

At 29 years old, Rafael's concern is with environmental preservation. “I hope this work will serve as an inspiration to children, young students and university students in the concept of sustainability and scrap reuse in general.”

In the case of the model, the record holder reused electronic remains, in particular computer parts. “These are materials with enormous potential that can be explored very well, ” he says.

According to him, electronic waste is a global problem and one of the pillars of his project is recycling, emphasizing the dangers that this material thrown into the environment can bring to people's health. “I want to show the importance of the correct disposal of these wastes, encouraging culture and art, ” he concludes.
