Students find a stranger living in the basement

While perhaps not a pleasant surprise, at least this group of Ohio State University students will have a good story to tell of their college days. And what was that surprise? Friends moved to an off-campus home when, after a month of living there, they discovered a stranger living in the basement.

Civil Engineering student Mark Hartman told The Lantern newspaper that he and his fellow Republicans even joked about having a "ghost" in the house when they began to realize that their cabinets, oven and microwave were mysteriously being left open.

It was all joking, but things started to get serious when they noticed that the events continued. So they decided to search the house and went down to the basement, where they found a room with a locked door. The question is why they haven't checked the place before, isn't it?

The fact is that they asked their realtor to open the door, as the professional had recently rented the house to them and had all the keys to the place. Then they discovered a fully furnished room with pictures of a man with his family and friends, but there was no one there at that time.

Computer student Brett Mugglin, who also lives in the house, recalled that he had seen the man around the house once and even talked to him, but the stranger had said he was just visiting other people who lived there. At the time, the man introduced himself as Jeremy and mentioned "I was wondering when I was going to get to know the people who live here, " but Brett couldn't even imagine that he lived in the basement.

Despite the scare, the students took the discovery well, leaving a note for Jeremy to contact. When they could talk to the man, the college students took his things and changed the locks of the house and the basement. The boys plan to go to court against the real estate agent who rented the house, who also takes the blame for not changing the locks, making sure the house was empty before the new tenants entered.

In the video, which you can see above, they say that the stranger was also a student at the University of Ohio, but was already seeing another place to live and starting to take his things. Brett says the story may sound funny now and that Jeremy is a good person, but the situation could have been very dangerous if it were with a person with criminal intent.
