Most of the people who lived through the psychedelic movement of the 1960s and 1970s could be expected to continue to use some types of drugs. And, according to a report published by io9, a UK study found that people over 50 are taking more drugs than ever before.

The study, conducted by the British Society of Geriatrics, evaluated drug use between two groups of individuals, divided by age: group 1, aged 50-64; and group 2, with people over 65 years. The researchers were not surprised to find that some of the individuals who used drugs in the past continue to use some of them to this day, but what really surprised them were the numbers.

Numbers flying high

According to the results, when the researchers questioned the psychedelic grandpa if they had taken drugs, 11.4% of group 1 and 1.7% of group 2 admitted that they were still using illicit substances, the main one being cannabis . However, when questioning those living in London, the researchers found that these numbers rose to 42.8 and 9.4%, respectively.

Drug use nationwide over the past 12 months, especially marijuana, reached 1.8 and 0.4% among individuals in groups 1 and 2, and in London the numbers were 9 and 1.1%, respectively. . By comparing the results of this survey with previous studies, the researchers concluded that illicit drug use increased from 1 to 11.4% among individuals over 50 years of age in the United Kingdom.

Conclusion?

The psychedelic stoners who consumed illicit substances in the 1960s and 1970s are aging, and some continue to take drugs. Perhaps these individuals can offer answers as to what the long-term effects of regular drug use might be.
