10 years abandoned, hospital still has body parts and medicines

Before 2005 and the United States became aware of the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, Charity Hospital was a place of learning and, proudly, one of the first health institutions in the country.

However, after the chaos between August 23 and 31, the hospital was completely abandoned for over ten years. Nothing since those days has been touched.

It was then that photographer Leland Kent decided to venture out of the rubble to find out what was hidden inside the building: between the wings, beyond the dirt, rusty equipment and rotting body parts.

In the corridors, medicines and dangerous chemicals forgotten by time. Behind the morgue, a large, completely abandoned autopsy theater.

According to Leland, "parts of the body, such as toes, feet, partial organs, which were to be taken to the morgue, remained in upstairs labs rotting in plastic buckets." He also noted that there were used needle bags stacked in the hallways.
