After removing the animal from the ice, the men wrapped it in a towel, put it in a car and called an animal protection service. So they were told to take him to the nearest vet clinic, where they discovered that the dog was actually a wolf.

“He was calm and slept on my legs. When I had to stretch them, he raised his head, ”said Rando Karstepp, one of the rescue workers. When the animal arrived at the veterinary clinic, its pressure was low, which may explain the abnormally docile behavior.

Concerned that he would not remain calm as soon as he recovered his strength, the vets treated the animal and locked him in a cage. Eventually, a hunter confirmed that it was a male wolf, probably just one year old.

Fortunately, he recovered quickly, was equipped with a radio tracker by researchers from the Estonian environmental agency and returned safely to nature. “We are very happy with the outcome of the story and we want to thank all the participants, ” said the agency.
