Impressive: Watch hundreds of baby octopuses come to life

The video above is impressive. Realizing that her young are ready to win the seas, the female octopus shakes her eggs with her tentacles, releasing hundreds of “babies” who immediately begin to explore the environment. If you pay attention to the animals in the following photograph, it is easy to imagine little aliens or “mini-Cthulhus” ready to rule the waters.

But, despite being an interesting scene, the breeding process of most octopuses is quite tragic. According to California Academy of Sciences Aquarium biologist Richard Ross, after laying eggs and caring for them until they "ripen, " females in most octopuses simply stop feeding and eventually die. Male octopuses also do not have a happy ending: the animal dies shortly after insemination at the conclusion of the sexual act.
