3D map of the Earth shows how volcanoes emerge [video]

University of California - Berkeley scientists have just released a video that can leave everyone in love with geography, history, geology and science in general with enchanted eyes. This is a work based on the first detailed 3D map of the inner part of planet Earth - you can see this in detail in the video above this paragraph.

The model shows the mantle plumes in operation, from the beginning of seismic movement to full formation - a long and time consuming process, but necessary for the "mouths" of volcanoes to be connected to the earth's crust magma. It is still possible to observe that there is no straight climb, as there are several deviations caused by the differences in temperatures inside.

It is worth mentioning that the demonstration is not perfect for all volcanic formations, but it serves as an excellent model for representing the first evidence that mantle plumes are a real phenomenon - which to this day remain a mystery to science.
