Actor wants to rescue forcibly lesbian cousin in 'antigay retreat'

Supergirl actor Jeremy Jordan used his Facebook profile to share a family drama: his cousin Sarah was forcibly interned at a camp to “stop” being a lesbian. The Christian retreat is in Texas and lasts for one year, in which the inmates have no communication with the outside world.

Jordan has created some sort of online kitty to raise funds to pay the fees of lawyers hired to retrieve her cousin from the forced camp - the girl is 17 years old. According to the actor, she was hospitalized by her parents after challenging them while dancing with her girlfriend at the high school prom. The court costs would be around $ 100, 000, with $ 61, 000 already collected in just 4 days.

Campaign aims to rescue Sarah from fundamentalist religious

"I can't believe that beautiful, intelligent and amazing people like my cousin Sarah still have to live with the idea that being gay is wrong, " wrote the actor. “Let's take a stand and help free this wonderful young lady and welcome her back into a world of love and acceptance, ” he added. Texas law allows parents to compulsorily detain their children in such institutions until they are 18 - Sarah, however, would have tried unsuccessfully to escape, unfortunately.

As described by Jordan, not only does this type of therapy not work, it can be very detrimental to the mental health of those who undergo it. Here at Mega Curioso we have already covered how “gay healing” would work. "Rather than being surrounded by friends who love her and support her for being who she is, Sarah is isolated in a place where her being a lesbian is treated as sin and disease, " said the actor.
