Balance Nature: Check out 7 rocks that seem to defy gravity

1 - Tiny Base

Location: Brimham Moor, Yorkshire, England

How can you?

The above formation, made of sandstone, is the most impressive of the Brimham rocks, and has been “carved” over time thanks to erosion caused by wind and water. The most interesting feature is the base of the structure - which eroded faster than the rest.

2 - Balanced Column

Location: Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada

A stronger wind there and ...

Balanced dangerously by the sea, the basalt column above looks about to collapse, don't you think?

3 - If pushed, falls

Location: Colorado Springs, USA

This will plummet!

The sandstone boulder above is a popular attraction in Colorado's Garden of the Gods Park.

4 - Petrified Family

Location: Zimbabwe, Africa

Mother nature sculptor

Will you say that the formation you just saw - made up of granite - doesn't resemble some petrified people? It is in the Matobo Hills and is known by the locals as "Kopje Mother and Son".

5 - Looks like talcum powder

Location: Sahara el Beyda, Egypt

A sheep beside a tree? What do you think?

Made of limestone, the formation of the image above is typical of desert regions and known by the names of mushroom and rocky pedestal. These structures form over thousands of years thanks to the abrasive action of wind-borne sand - which hits the rock and erodes the upper and lower parts at different rates. Thus, the base of the formations is smaller than the top because the action of sand is more frequent in the first meter from the ground.

6 - I go downhill?

Location: California, USA

A little push, and she goes down!

Situated in Yosemite National Park, the huge rock above was transported by a glacier and abandoned in this way - precariously balanced - after the ice melted.

7 - Butter Ball

Location: Mahabalipuram, India

It will be rolling?

The huge boulder you just saw in the image, made of granite, is known by the name of "Krishna Butter Ball" - and also Vaan Irai Kal . It stands approximately six meters high, five wide and weighs around 250 tons, and has been balanced on this slightly sloping terrain of the photo for 1, 200 years.

* The rock formation that appears at the opening of the matter is known as Chiremba and is balanced in the Matopo National Park in Zimbabwe.
