SpaceX spacecraft to take passengers to Mars gets new name

Using his official Twitter account, Elon Musk, the head behind SpaceX (and now just one of Tesla's directors) has revealed an important name change in the future of his company's space exploration: the rocket that will take people to the moon. in the near future called Big Falcon Rocket (BFR) has now been renamed Starship.

Starship, together with Super Heavy thrusters, will be able to drive up to 100 tons or 100 passengers to planet Mars.

In fact, Musk explained this name change better: there are two parts, the upper one, where the passengers go, will be called Starship, and the propeller, the rocket itself, will be called Super Heavy. The spacecraft will replace those currently used by SpaceX, Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy and Dragon rockets. The 118-meter ship is being developed at the port of Los Angeles and will cost about $ 5 billion, or $ 18.8 billion.

Conquering the space

The Starship, together with the Super Heavy thrusters, will be able to drive up to 100 tons or 100 passengers to planet Mars. However, until that happens, the spacecraft should begin unmanned testing before the end of 2019. Plans indicate an attempt to bring the still-passenger ship to Mars and back in 2022 and finally 2024., take the first humans to the Red Planet.

In the meantime, in the year 2023, Starship is to conduct a test mission that will take a passenger for a spin around the moon.
