America's Sweethearts

In days of boredom and laziness, nothing better than reviewing a good movie that waits patiently on the shelf. This week, I came across again with "The Darlings of America, " a romantic comedy beyond sympathy.

The film is starring John Cusack, Catherine Zeta-Jones and the ever-powerful Julia Roberts, who completes the love triangle (square?) Of the production. The story tells the story of Gwen (Zeta-Jones) and Eddie (Cusack), two movie stars undergoing a split without any privacy.

Because they are America's most beloved couple, they both need to attend the release of their latest film together in an attempt to rescue their careers. Eddie still loves his wife, but she is with Hector, a strong and clueless Latin lover. At the same time, Gwen is accompanied by Kiki (Roberts), her sister and assistant who has always been in love with Eddie.

To add to the problem, there is a need to entertain the local press as the film has not yet been delivered by crazy director Hal Weidmann (Christopher Walken).

"America's Sweethearts" makes a humorous critique of various situations in the entertainment world, such as endless cast interviews, unscrupulous producers, lack of privacy, and misuse of the public image of movie stars.

On the other hand, we have a passionate story of someone who finally realizes there is much more behind the appearances flaunted in front of the spotlight. An unpretentious option for those looking for a few hours of fun.

The film, released in 2001, is directed by Joe Roth and written by Peter Tolan and Billy Crystal, an actor who is also part of the production cast.
