According to the Live Science website, NASA's SOHO space probe captured an image that alerted the UFO hunter community. The photograph in question shows a metal object with a giant arm that looks like a spaceship and is orbiting near the sun.

Although the sighting has quickly become one of the top topics on blogs and discussion forums, scientists at the US Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) have analyzed the images and denied the possibility of an alien spacecraft.

According to scientists, the spacecraft is just a collection of luminous stripes produced by cosmic rays that quickly passed through the camera's sensor at the time the image was being recorded.

"I want to believe"

According to NRL Nathan Rich, as a cosmic ray passes through the camera's sensors, the camera places a large amount of its electrical charge on the pixel struck by it, and depending on the angle with which the beam strikes the sensor, pixels end up affected, creating images like the one published by NASA.

The likelihood that cameras here on Earth will record such images is very small, since we are protected from cosmic rays by the magnetosphere, which prevents them from reaching the surface of our planet.
