To discuss racism and xenophobia, German supermarket empties shelves

The refugee crisis is one of the largest human migratory movements ever seen on Earth. Many leave their warring countries to try their luck elsewhere. The favorite destination is still Europe, which has been in a big crisis because of this flood of foreigners arriving every day.

Obviously, this has met with a lot of resistance from the population, which sometimes decides to move to racism and xenophobia when it comes to expressing their "opinions". To question these issues differently, a German supermarket decided to remove all imported products from its shelves, replacing them with messages extolling the importance of globalization.

The establishment in question is Hamburg's Edeka, which is part of the country's largest supermarket chain. It is believed that this campaign will spread to other units, showing how the German people depend in their daily lives on products made in other countries.

Several shelves were empty

The various signs on the empty shelves said, "This shelf is very boring without diversity, " "Our variety now knows borders, " "That's how empty a shelf is without foreigners, " and "We'll be poorer without diversity."

German Sven Schmidt shared on his Twitter photos of the campaign, which quickly went viral, reaching over 20, 000 likes and 8, 000 shares. He says he has received many positive messages, but that the hateful messages about the campaign have made it worthwhile that he released the images as they prove the importance of the debate.
