Why do some dogs love to drink toilet water?

If you are the dog-loving type and have spent most of your life surrounded by these adorable animals, you must have spotted one of the animals drinking water from the toilet sometime - yuck! And if not, you certainly know that there are dogs that love to do that. But why do some dogs like to drink water right from there? After all, this is not the cleanest place, and the animals should realize this just by their nose!

According to About.com, it turns out that dogs are habit-forming creatures, and once you've discovered the “source of joy, ” we can be sure that they will continue to resort to it whenever possible. Here are some possible reasons:

1 - Smell

Although it sounds ... disgusting, the truth is that the toilet is probably impregnated with its smell, and that's an incredible draw for your dog. Plus, dogs can get a lot of information through smell, and nothing better than checking where you put your most personal scent.

2 - Fresh water

The material from which the toilet is made helps keep the water cooler, and the size of the container also allows more liquid to be available to quench thirst. After all, compare these characteristics with the pet drinkers! In these containers, water tends to get dirty and “ironed” faster, and the materials with which they are made can give off odors and taste.

3 - Quality

In addition to the fact that the water is renewed with each discharge, it is also oxygenated by the movement caused during this process, contributing to its quality being better than that of the stagnant drinking fountain, which is often full of food fragments., ration, grass etc.

4 - Instinct

Some experts speculate that the fact that some dogs prefer toilet water over drinking water may be related to their instinct and refer to how they evolved to survive. Insects, fungi and parasites - such as giardia and coccidia - are much more likely to be found in stagnant water than running water, so it is possible that dogs are just following their basic survival instincts.

Remember that while some pets really insist on drinking pot water, the cleaning products used are toxic and can do a lot of harm to our mates. Therefore, keep the bathroom door - or toilet lid - always closed, change water frequently or invest in a system that keeps the liquid always clean and fresh.
