Bill wants to ban “desecration of sacred symbols” in entertainment

Deputy Pastor Marco Feliciano (PSC-SP) has filed a bill (PL 8615/2017) that will give you some talk: the text provides for the obligation of “appropriate indicative classification for children and adolescents and the prohibition of the desecration of sacred symbols " The text covers public events, circus, theater, concert, music and other live attractions, as well as television programming, film, DVDs, electronic and role-playing games, among others.

Iron Maiden or Madonna shows and games like FarCry would be banned in Brazil

The indication of age is a basic requirement for all products launched in the sector in Brazil, but the expansion to presentations, for example, already causes negative reactions in social networks, so that the bureaucracy for the realization of cultural productions would be even bigger: the Executive each square - with state and federal support - would be responsible for recommending the most appropriate locations and times.

Lucifer

The controversial Lucifer series would also be left out of Brazilian TV

Fans of Madonna, Iron Maiden and Lady Gaga, for example, already fear that this justification will be used to block the coming of artists who would have "provocative" or "controversial" proposals to come to Brazil. For fans of games and sitcoms, titles like FarCry 5 or Lucifer, respectively, would have a good chance of being banned here as well.

And now?

The bill comes at an opportune moment, as many people are dividing regarding the exhibition “Queermuseu - Cartographies of the difference in Brazilian art”, canceled in Porto Alegre; and the opening performance of the 35th Panorama of Brazilian Art at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) of São Paulo, in which a naked body could be manipulated by the public, evoking Lygia Clark's work “Bicho”.

Definition of what "desecration" would be too vague in the project

Since the definition of “profanity” is somewhat vague in the proposal itself and the discussions - especially between the author himself and the community - are heated and unproductive, it is possible that the text will gain a lot of resistance during the process in the House of Representatives.

Feliciano hopes that the document will be evaluated without other similar matters in the Legislature, which would expedite its appreciation. He is currently in the Coordination of Committees and Permanent Affairs and must be referred for processing before going to the plenary.
