Want to see a heart beating in full surgery? [video]

If you are a fan of shows like Grey's Anatomy and the late Medical Duty, then you may have watched some dramatic episode in which a patient with a serious condition or bizarre condition has his chest open - and his heart beating there - during a complicated surgery, isn't it? For if you have ever been curious about how these procedures happen in real life, then get ready to watch the video below:

According to the Boing Boing website, the above clip was captured during a bypass surgery performed at Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital, and the patient was identified only by the name of "Lou." According to the publication, the images show Lou's heart beating moments before doctors temporarily stopped the organ and connected the patient to a heart-lung machine for the procedure.

Surgery is performed when the patient's arteries are clogged and can no longer provide enough blood for the heart to function properly, and the goal is to improve blood flow. In Lou's case, the surgery was apparently a success, and he gave his consent for the images to be released by the hospital.
