Watch a can of liquid nitrogen-cooled Coke explode [video]

When a group of scientists decided to put a can of Coke in a container filled with liquid nitrogen, the most obvious expectation was that the liquid would completely freeze. What not everyone would have imagined was the possibility of metal cracking before all its contents solidified, resulting in what looks like a time-stopping soda burst - or a work of art, for those with a more progressive artistic sense.

In the video above, you not only can follow the experiment and its result, but you can also see an interesting time-lapse showing the natural thawing of the drink. The researchers tried to repeat the feat with another can and although it also cracked, the material was already too rigid and not leaking. Already when the "guinea pig" was a Pepsi claw, the plastic didn't even break.

According to the researchers, one of the most interesting findings was to be able to prove that frozen soft drinks do not become massive blocks when solidified, but constitute a cluster of small crumbling crystals. And you, what did you think of the curious experiment? Leave your opinion in the comments.
