6 Beauty Rituals That We Feel Informed Simply Don't Work

It may seem strange to address this kind of subject in Mega Curioso, but the truth is that it concerns all of us: after all, who doesn't have shampoo or mouthwash in the bathroom? Amazingly, it may be that our use of these products may not be as effective or right as we thought. Check out some examples.

1. Acne Products

There are not many people with acne problems, so there is a very wide range of pimple products on the shelves of markets and pharmacies: soaps, lotions, ointments and tissues are just some of the formats available. But unfortunately, this whole arsenal may not be as efficient as we believe.

According to Cracked, the book "Modern Technology of Cosmetics" states that these acne soaps, for example, act more on the surface of the skin, while acne forms below it, in a layer where these products do not get to act. According to the website, the most advisable, in case of serious problems with acne, is to visit a specialist, because sometimes even antibiotics need to be given.

And if you want some kind of treatment on your own, wash your face two to three times a day (no more) with a mild soap or just warm water.

2. Mouthwash

If alcohol is good for disinfecting injuries, it should be great for cleaning the inside of the mouth, right? Well, wrong. All these mouthwashes that carry alcohol in their makeup are a bad choice to keep everything clean. The main problem lies in the fact that alcohol causes the mouth to dry and thus decreases the amount of saliva produced. And saliva is the body's natural defense against the bacteria that cause bad breath.

The main reason for adding alcohol to these products is the need to join the eucalyptus and menthol oils, which are also used by the manufacturers. Were it not for alcohol, these oils would be separated and would not form the homogeneous mixture we are used to seeing in the jars of the shelves.

In this case, it is best to follow the dentist's recommendations: brush your tongue (besides your teeth, of course), floss and drink plenty of water, so your mouth is healthier and with fewer bacteria.

3. Less hair removal

Shaving is not an exclusive activity of women. Although this is the prevailing thinking of decades ago, today the practice of removing body hair is increasingly being adopted by men as well. In fact, the shaved body has even become a standard of beauty, running daily in cosmetic ads and magazines.

But there is a problem with this trend: what we earn during puberty should not be removed, or at least not with the methods we use today. Whether with wax or razor, hair removal increases the number of inflammation in these areas, which can even turn into abscesses.

Because of this kind of vulnerability caused by hair removal, some hospitals are not even shaving patients before surgery, preferring instead to just trim their hair. So this can also be a measure for everyone to follow.

4. Anti Aging Creams

The fight against aging is one of the most promising branches of science and has become a real obsession with some professionals and consumers. Age reversal technologies have advanced, but are not yet effective. This does not, however, prevent researchers like Bill Andrews from continuing to dream of making humans live for 150 years.

The problem with creams sold to slow aging is that they have a compound that penetrates the body and forces the renewal of the first layer of skin. Thus, dead cells fall and new ones pop up in their places, leaving everyone with glowing, renewed skin.

But this process makes skin layers increasingly fragile and sensitive to ultraviolet rays, which are the main causes of aging and cancer. So Cracked's advice is to get people away from anti-aging creams and, if they want to use something, that appeals to the good old sunscreen.

5. Cut cuticles

Taking the cuticle, that is, that piece of skin that is at the beginning of the nails, can be a bad idea. Although this is a common practice in beauty salons in Brazil (and in many parts of the world), the cuticle is nothing more than a defense system that not only protects the finger from everyday dirt, but also delivers nutrients. the nails.

Cutting the cuticle may favor the onset of nail infections and diseases and should therefore be avoided as much as possible. If this is not possible, resort to gloves, just to get that little fur out of your sight. Unfortunately, there is no other solution.

6. Wash your hair every day

Spending a few days without washing your hair is asking to get your hair dirty and even oily. Therefore, people usually wash the locks daily. But there's a catch: Washing your hair so often causes the natural protective lining of the hair to be lost, making it more fragile.

And it is precisely because of this action that conditioners were invented, that is, to correct some of the damage caused by shampoo. But of course the process of restitution of this protective sebum is not perfect, so the suggestion for this item is to wash your hair less often.
