Did you know that wearing a tie cuts circulation to your brain?

If you were looking for an excuse for not having to wear ties anymore, here's a good reason, based on science. According to an article published in the journal Neuroradiology, this accessory reduces blood circulation, influencing brain irrigation.

The study leading to this finding was conducted by neurologist Robin Lüddecke and conducted at the Schleswig-Holstein University Hospital in Germany with 30 participants.

Over a period of time, the researchers analyzed blood flow toward the head by dividing the subjects into two groups: one wore ties and the other did not. The study used magnetic resonance imaging to analyze the brains of individuals shortly after tying the knot.

Immediately after the use of the garment, individuals had their blood circulation in the neck and head area reduced by 7.5%, a very considerable percentage. However, this is not a fatal number; otherwise, brain circulation and irrigation incidents would be much more recurrent.

Thus, although considered high, this value is directly dangerous only for those with very high blood pressure. Despite this impact on cerebral blood flow, the authors of the analysis noted that there is no change in venous flow directed to the heart.

This is not the only reflection of ties on the body. They also contribute slightly to increased eye pressure, which over the years can lead to the development of glaucoma, one of the most dangerous and silent eye diseases, which can even lead to blindness.

Ophthalmologists emphasize that the risk they offer is not extremely significant and is only a small one among glaucoma risk factors - among which is the continued use of tobacco, for example. It is not yet known the effects of wearing the accessory for long periods and if, after several years, it may influence the onset of the disease.

No need to cut the ties and pull them out of the closet, but it should not hurt to loosen the knot a bit, right?
