Everyone knows that certain activities can cause a bit of stress before bed, such as watching horror movies, some types of medicine, and even a program that thrills you too much can mess with your brain. A study published in Frontiers in Psychology revealed that people who ate spicy foods before bed had problems from the moment they fell asleep, had difficulties with sleep, and even had dreams that caused stress.

As spicy sauces raise body temperature, there is a worse quality of sleep. You can often take a long time to sleep and, when you finally do, have unsettling dreams.

8. Cakes and Cookies

Sugar before bed is never a good idea! Studies have shown that you can have strange and stressful dreams after eating cakes and cookies just before bedtime. This type of food will act on REM (Rapid Eyes Moviment), impairing your sleep quality.

7. Cheeses

Delicious as it is, cheese tops the list of nightmarish foods. In the same study by Frontiers in Psychology, 44% of the people who ate cheese had disturbing dreams at night. Unfortunately, other dairy products are also on the list, and they complicate our life at bedtime!

6. Salad Dressing

Surprising as it may seem, salad dressings have hidden sugars in their formula, so they're not bedtime friendly at all, and can keep you awake for a long time. The tip is to make your own salad dressing at home, if you have the habit of eating at night, to know exactly what goes into the ingredients.

5. Pasta

This is no secret! Carbohydrates are important for a balanced diet, however, try to eat them a long time before bed. Like sugar, it disturbs the dream, causing time to nail the eyes and especially bringing bad dreams! So no eating that bagel or a plate of pasta just at bedtime.

4. French Fries

Fatty foods in general, like french fries, cause a great stress to the body at bedtime. By the time you should be resting, your body will be working overtime to digest all the fat, which will cause very stressful dreams ... and maybe a beautiful heartburn.

3. Refrigerant

Although not literally food, sodas can cause little problems at bedtime! There are several reasons why this drink is bad for the body, especially at night:

It initially contains caffeine, which already impairs sleep. It also increases the risk of heart disease, aids in weight gain and increases diabetes. Its high sugar content is already largely responsible for the possible nightmares.

2. Chocolate

No use complaining, it's true! Like soda, chocolate contains caffeine and too much sugar, which may be triggering some violent nightmares for candy lovers. Studies show that this food contains compounds that are psychoactive to the brain and lead us to have much more vivid dreams. On the other hand, dark chocolate has healthy antioxidants, but also avoid the night!

1. Ice cream

The truth is that ice cream is the food that causes the most nightmares if eaten near bedtime. Loaded with fats and sugars, these magically-flavored ice-cold masses pump our body of energy, which gets in the way of falling asleep and brings vivid nightmares.

Also, since your body won't have time to digest all those calories, everything will turn fat for sure, no use complaining.
