After 17 years in the lead, HBO loses to Netflix in Emmy nominations

The Emmy organization - the television Oscar - today announced the 12 nominations for the various awards that will be distributed on September 17. But unlike what has been going on for the past 17 years, HBO has not ranked first on the list of the most nominated broadcasters. At the top was Netflix, with 112 nominations against 108 from HBO.

This reflects Netflix's effort in producing original content and also the pace of its publication. Netflix expects to spend more than $ 8 billion on original titles in 2017, compared to $ 2.5 billion from HBO. This alone indicates that the company is already beating its main competitor in quantity.

Game of Thrones, considered the biggest hit of the world TV of all time, got 22 nominations

However, when it comes to quality, the traditional US channel is still at the top. Game of Thrones, considered to be the biggest hit on world TV of all time, has received 22 Emmy Award nominations. Second place was split between NBC's Saturday Night Live and HBO's Westworld, both with 21 nominations. Hulu's Handmaid's Tale was the third most nominated program with 20 nominations in total.

Even with that, it's impressive to see Netflix's evolution as a producer of original TV content. Three years ago, the streaming service received just 34 Emmy nominations, more than tripling its share this year.

Either way, the Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on September 17th. Only then will we know who will be at the top of the list of most awarded. In this field, however, HBO has won Emmy's last 16 years.
