Artist creates series of Petri dish paintings

After being diagnosed ten years ago with a chronic bowel disease and undergoing wrong treatment, American painter Klari Reis began to wonder about the different ways the human body can respond to medicines. Thus, the artist decided that she should explore biological reactions in her own work.

To do this, Reis works with biotechnology agencies, where he can examine the effect of drugs on blood with the help of electron microscopes. After observing these natural reactions, the painter uses layers of epoxy polymers to recreate the images she sees.

And there is a fundamental detail that makes the process more creative: Reis does not use photographic images for this, relying only on his own memory to paint the Petri dishes, which makes each piece as a way of interpreting reality. In addition, temperature variations are also applied to elicit some unexpected reactions and to somehow mimic the repetition of natural cells.

You have to confess that the end result is very interesting, no? Especially when all painted boards are put together on one wall. Check out more images from the series at The Daily Dish 2013 blog.
