Even robots wanted to attend the 2018 Winter Olympics

While part of the world keeps an eye on the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, another rather curious event has begun to place nothing less than robots to compete in a ski tournament. Named Edge of Robot: Ski Robot Challenge, the competition involved a total of eight teams from different universities, institutes and private companies - all seeking a prize of no less than $ 10, 000.

According to the official fanpage of the tournament, the competition took place on an 80-meter slope at Welli Hilli Ski Resort, located just an hour from where Pyeongchang games take place. The challenge? Build robots capable of guiding the track alone to drive between the flags correctly, then reach the end of the course.

As you can see from the video above, the result was quite funny. Since the small automatons were experiencing record low temperatures, even the children's clothing worn by them was not sufficient to prevent malfunctions; so much of the competition was a festival of stumbling, failures, and some simply unable to do their jobs.

On the other hand, some of them have successfully achieved their goal, resulting not only in an interesting watching competition but also encouraging us to imagine the future of these technologies.
