Brazilians lost $ 22 billion to cybercrime in 2017
Brazil is a benchmark in cybercrime. Phishing scams are often very successful here and are the most commonly detected malicious activity by security companies. Like every year, Symantec publishes the Norton Cyber Security Insights Report, which covers the value of cybercrime worldwide - and, unfortunately, for Brazil, not good news.
Brazilian cybercrime has grown from 2016 to 2017: $ 10.3 billion to $ 22.5 billion. At the current price, we are talking about an amount of R $ 72.1 billion that fell into the hands of malicious agents worldwide - 62 million Brazilians fell in scams, about 60% of the connected population.
Across the globe, the bill stands at: $ 172 billion stolen from 978 million computer and smartphone users
To understand how the government should handle cybercrime, Norton still conducted a global survey and found that 81% of Symantec consumers believe "cybercrime should be treated as any criminal act, " while 80% believe "cybercrime is wrong." ; business and government should do more to protect the population. "
Still, with $ 172 billion stolen from users worldwide, 1 in 4 Norton consumers believe stolen information online is not as bad as having something stolen "in the real world."
