72-year-old Briton has unusual reaction to seeing rain-flooded kitchen

Britain has been suffering from severe storms in recent days. This Tuesday (8), were almost 24 hours of precipitation and winds of over 110 km / h, which caused much damage and left people isolated. One of the hardest hit regions was Cumbria County, where about 1, 000 homes were left without light and people were advised not to try to cross the nearby bridges.

In the midst of all this, a local resident, the 72-year-old retired Peter Clarkson, decided not to be sorry and took advantage of the chaotic situation to have fun and try to ease some of the suffering of his neighbors. The man put on bathing suits and reveled briefly in the "pool" in which he became the kitchen of his home.

Amid pans, pots, containers, garbage, dirt and more than 1.2 meters of water that took the room due to the flood caused by rain, you decided to relax the situation and take a few laps. That's right: ignoring the dirty, possibly contaminated water that flooded his entire kitchen, he made his wife Jill and some neighbors laugh, even during the period that, as he describes himself, "seemed like a nightmare."

According to an interview with Mail Online, Peter Clarkson had this attitude as a way of not getting discouraged in the midst of the difficult period the community was going through. “I just felt that I should do something to show that this terrible nightmare will not bring us down (...) it brought us some laughs, and that was what we needed: just some reason to smile, ” he said.

After the game, the retiree could only dry himself, because the residence was without light and without gas, making it impossible for him to take a good shower. Even so, he does not seem to regret the attitude. "I feel that if we don't take care of ourselves, we will be very depressed and unhappy, " he added. According to him, a friend has already offered help cleaning up the dishes in his home, as the kitchen appliances at the Clarkson residence are all out of use for now.

Rain that surprised everyone

The Kendal area, where the Clarkson couple live, was one of the most severely affected by the rains. Local residents were caught off guard by the amount of water that flooded the area. Peter said that at some point the rains made the water reach about eight inches from the ceiling. “Me, my wife, and all our friends have seen a lot of rain over the years, but none have been the same. People were desperate and shaken by what happened to their homes and their lives in the last days. ”

The flood swimmer does not lose faith and hope that everything will get better. “Everything in that kitchen needs to be cleaned or thrown away. It will be a long job, but we hope to recover most things. Calmly, we will return to the normalcy of our lives - this has always been and always will be, ”he concluded.
