Synthetic meat is produced in space by astronauts

We are closer every day to the possibility of living in space! Now, International Space Station (ISS) astronauts, using the technique developed by the company Aleph Farms, have been able to reproduce beef in space. The successful experiment took place on September 26, 399 km away from our planet!

For the process to work, bovine cells were cultured on Earth and carried into space. From there, the astronauts used a 3D printer, added to these cells, to form the bovine muscle tissue.

Last year, in December, Aleph had already created the first steak in the laboratory, but although this news has already reached the space, there is still much to improve, such as the taste, which is not the same as “natural meat”. "

The future of the flesh

What the statistics say is that by 2050 the world's population will reach the number of 10 billion people and to feed everyone there should be a large cattle raising, much larger than we ever imagined. However, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), raising cattle to feed so many people could have a major negative impact on the planet.

Now, with this possibility of synthetic meat production, if the method succeeds on a large scale in the future, it can be used to feed the overcrowding of the future.

According to Oxford studies from 2019, if all mankind were to eat laboratory-produced meat, greenhouse gases would be reduced by 80 percent and 99 percent less land would be occupied by livestock, leaving more room for the population itself. to occupy.
