Haunted houses hit Hong Kong property market

Are you thinking of buying a property but think the prices are too high? If you found the property of your dreams, well located and with everything you ever dreamed, would you care if the previous resident had died under abnormal circumstances within it? It seems that in Hong Kong this is no longer a problem. In fact, the more sinister and recent the event, the better!

The people of this city are extremely superstitious, believing that the spirit of someone who has died in unusual circumstances - such as murder, suicide or any fatal accident - remains in the house, bringing bad luck to new residents. Even by law, buyers have the right to know everything that happened in these homes, and it is common to investigate their history.

Stratospheric Values

However, in an overheated market, the 20 to 40 percent discounts offered by these "haunted houses" are causing people to put aside their fears. By the way, there are already investors following tragedies and sinister incidents, hoping to get a good bargain when buying the property.

Was a woman beaten to death and mutilated by her aide? Has an unfortunate man with financial and marital problems thrown himself through the 36th floor window? What is the problem? The investors themselves would not live in such a house, but they do not encounter any hindrance when renting them, especially to foreigners, who do not care as much about these issues as the locals do.

However, in a city with a population of 7 million crowded in a small area, it should be difficult to find a home where no unusual incidents have occurred, and with property prices in the stratosphere, perhaps sharing the apartment with a little ghost is not such a bad idea.
