Meet the leprechaun shark and its scary bite

The goblin shark is probably one of the scariest fish species around. Living in deep water - starting at 200 meters - this shark is up to 4 meters long and can be found in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans.

This is believed to be one of the oldest sharks in the world, and as much as we know it feeds on octopuses, squids and other mollusks, there is no way to be frightened by the bite of this fish. In the GIF below, you can see how he projects his jaw forward when attacking an object, a little like the inside mouth of the monsters in the movie "Alien".

This is also the only shark species that has a pink color when alive, and this is due to the fact that its semitransparent skin shows blood vessels.

To date, 45 goblin shark specimens have been found from around the world, the heaviest of which was 210 kilograms. One of the last records of encounter with this species happened in Brazil, when a specimen was found dead in Rio Grande do Sul and later donated to the Oceanographic Museum of the Federal University of Rio Grande Foundation.
