Exhausted dog lost at sea rescued by oil tankers in Thailand

This story could have had a very sad ending, but thanks to oil tankers working on a platform in Thailand, all was well. A puppy lost in the sea was swimming 130 miles - about 209 km - off shore when it was spotted by workers.

Luckily, it was a calm sea day, but the tankers still had to work fast to get it back. The dog swam to the platform and they tied a rope around it and pulled him aboard. One of the workers, Vitisak Payalaw, was able to file the lawsuit.

Payalaw said the puppy was trying to hold onto one of the platform beams, but couldn't even bark from it so exhausted. The tankers gave him free water and took him to a vet in the southern Thai city of Songkhla so he could recover.

The theory is that the puppy fell off a fishing boat or ran away from someone who abused him. Now he has a group of friends who take care of him and named him Boonrod, which means “to make a spiritual donation for good luck in the future, ” in Thai.

The story spread and touched many people who wanted to help. Payalaw, however, said he needs no donation, and is delighted that he can spend many years with his new friend.
