3,000-year-old sword found in Denmark was still sharp

Have you ever thought about an object made by you lasting 3, 000 years? Probably not this Bronze Age blacksmith, but a couple of Danes have found a weapon in excellent condition.

After the end of the Stone Age, humans began to master casting techniques and began to manufacture metal weapons and tools, entering the so-called Metal Age, which comprised approximately the period from 5000 BC to 1000 BC.

The Bronze Age was the period in which it developed, as its name implies, the technique for the use of bronze, which consists of fusion between copper and tin, obtaining a metal with enormous strength, low melting point, very easy to polish. and that is not easily eroded, having a long service life. The archaeological find

They live in Zealand, Denmark's most populous island, and they usually go for a night walk with their metal detectors, behind hidden coins or treasures, and eventually find something.

The couple dug about six inches and visualized what appeared to be the hilt of a sword. Realizing that the object could be relevant to archaeological research and exposure to air could damage the piece, the pair buried the sighted piece again and contacted the Vestsjælland Museum, which is responsible for the archaeological excavations of the region.

The museum inspector came to the scene the next day and discovered an incredibly well-kept sword, so much so that small details are still visible — it was even sharp. After analysis, she believes the artifact was manufactured in the fourth phase of the Bronze Age, probably between 1100 BC and 900 BC.

In search of treasure

Amateur archaeologists look for buried objects across the country, and since local artifacts are state-owned, they are financially rewarded after analysis and confirmation that the findings are indeed relevant to history.
